Time management techniques

This video is for adults who want to manage their time more effectively.

Video transcript

Time management techniques really focusing on work load and trying to break it down into more manageable chunks. It's really trying to get across working smarter rather than longer.

You start by making a list of all the things that you need to do that day and looking at your to-do list and trying to put them in order of importance, whether at home or at work, and then trying to keep that order. Check your list again, do you really need to do each task personally or can some of them be delegated to others.

Next right down your timescales for each task, for example some tasks need immediate attention whereas others can wait till next week.

Try to identify your best working time. It may be first thing in the morning or late at night. Plan to carry out your most challenging or tiring tasks during this time.

Do try to vary your tasks so you have a mixture of those mundane tasks we all have and those interesting ones.

Finally work through your list one task at a time. If you try too many at once you are less likely to get them completed.

The techniques we've covered can equally be applied outside the work place, for example at home.
